Dragon Bones
This week’s PVP reset is bringing a new legendary troop to the field in the form of The Bone Dragon, and of course it’s time to claim Glory from your PVP ranks.
New Troop: Bone Dragon
This is a troop with no ordinary backstory. Bear with us as we spin you a tale, which could never, ever be true… or could it?
Way back at the start of developing 1.0.6, we had a single goal: To deliver the most ‘dragon’ ever seen in a video game. Not the most amount of dragons collectively, but volumetrically have more dragon per square inch than any other game that had ever been made (even Skyrim). Everything else was secondary – it was ALL about THE DRAGON. We imagined a Dragon SO IMMENSE that if you were to blend this dragon into a fine paste, it would be able to fill all the grain silos of Kansas collectively. And so with our legions of engineers and artists, we began work on THE DRAGON. We could never guess what would happen next….
In hindsight, there were many signs that we should have backed off from our quest to include THE DRAGON. It was difficult to contain in a single PC, and had soon moved to live in our file server, from where it eventually came to inhabit our entire building’s network infrastructure. The late night rumblings, and flames that licked around the network switches should have warned us, but we couldn’t stop.
What we hadn’t realized was that through our hubris of technology, THE DRAGON was alive. Forget Sky.Net – it was insignificant next to what WE had created… we feared the end times were upon us.
Terrified that THE DRAGON might get loose upon the internet, we dropped everything. In the middle of translating Brian the Lucky’s dialog into Spanish (or ‘SeƱor Brian La Suerte’ as our Spanish players will come to know him), we pulled the network cables from the servers to contain the beast we had unwittingly created.
And there THE DRAGON sat, along with the 1.0.6 update, for many weeks, struggling to get free, until he eventually let off one last fireball, and passed away. We sat there devastated that our greatest creation had been lost. The fireball incidentally killed the guy who comes to borrow our printer when his breaks down, but that was merely collateral at this point.
So there you have it – the real reason 1.0.6 was delayed.
All that remained of THE DRAGON was a pile of bones, which we summarily and reverently removed from our Drobo 2580 server. However, in a moment that deserved it’s own ‘You won’t believe what happens next’ click bait headline, the bones came alive with a vengeful snarl, tore the roof off the studio, flew away into the sunset, and were never heard from again.
Until now!
