Patch 1.0.9 has landed! Get all the details of what’s new and what’s changed below!

Hero Classes
* Players will be able to unlock classes for their Heroes by completing Class Quests.
* Class Quests appear after you have finished the main story in a Kingdom.
* There are 7 Classes when 1.0.9 launches, with more to come in the future:

  • ~ Warlord: Quest located in Broken Spire
  • ~ Knight: Quest located in Sword’s Edge
  • ~ Priest: Quest located in Whitehelm
  • ~ Archer: Quest located in Forest of Thorns
  • ~ Warden: Quest located in Maugrim Woods
  • ~ Sorcerer: Quest located in Karakoth
  • ~ Necromancer: Quest located in Khetar

* Classes can be levelled using Souls, each level grants extra Spell Mastery for a single color, and occasionally grants extra Magic when using weapons of a certain color.
* Classes like troops, have 20 levels, each one giving extra Skills.
* Classes have 3 Traits, like troops, that must be unlocked. The 3rd trait is always a unique and powerful Legendary Trait.
* Classes have 3 perks, obtained after 10, 25, and 50 victories. Perks grant extra skill points, or allow the Hero to function as a Troop Types.
* At Level 10, all classes give the Hero a Kingdom Type, just like troops get (always the Kingdom that they are unlocked in).
* At 250 Victories, Classes unlock a special Mythical Class Weapon with a powerful spell.

World Map
* The world map has had a makeover with a new look.
* Glory is now displayed as a currency like Gold and Gems.
* Chat- a new chat system has been added to the game:

  • ~ There are 2 Tabs for Chat- Global and Guild.
  • ~ Global Chat: allows Players to chat together in game from any screen.
  • ~ Guild Chat has been moved from the guild menu to be part of the new chat system.
  • ~ There is Leave button on the chat screen for players who aren’t feeling chatty today.
New Kingdoms
The Kingdoms of Drifting Sands and Blighted Lands have appeared in the game. You can find their kingdom troops in chests!

Please note that Ifrit and Venbarak are not currently available in chests. They are coming in future events.

Balance
* Challenge battles have been reworked so that they are more interesting and challenging to play.
* Troops now gain uniquely-tailored Skill points for levels 16-20 and as well as ascending, this means that the Skill values on troops will have changed from patch 1.0.8.:

  • All troops have been affected by this so we haven’t listed out the exact changes here. See the updated Troop List.

* Status Effects:

  • ~ Burning and Poison can now kill a troop.
  • ~ Silence no longer drains Mana from victims.
  • ~ New Status Effect: Frozen, a Frozen troop cannot contribute extra turns to its team, either from its spell, or from matching 4/5-of-a-kind of its color. (Note that it CAN still contribute turns as indirect result of gems spawned by its spell forming a 4/5-of-a-kind, provided they do not match one of its own colors).
  • ~ New Status Effect: Barrier , A troop with Barrier is immune to the next piece of damage he receives, either from skulls, spells, or status effects.
  • ~ New Status Effect: Death Mark, Troops with Death mark have a 10% chance to immediately die at the start of their turn. This cannot occur in the first 2 turns after they receive death mark.
  • ~ New Status Effect: Disease, a Diseased troop only gains half the mana from gem matches (round up).

* Traits:

  • ~ All (natural) Legendary Troops have gain special unique Legendary Traits.
  • ~ True Shot has been changed to have a 75% chance to activate and has become a Legendary Trait (on Orion).
  • ~ Added new Trait: Armor Piercing, which has a 50% chance to ignore Armor on Skull matches. This has replace True-Shot on most Troops.
  • ~ Agile has been changed to have 20% chance to activate (down from 30%).
  • ~ Blessed and Cursed effects have increased from 1 to 2
  • ~ Leader’s effect has been increased from 2 to 3

* New Traits have been added to the game:

  • ~ Chill Touch: Cause Frozen on Skull damage
  • ~ Shatter: Deal double damage vs Frozen Enemies
  • ~ Insulated: Immunity to Frozen
  • ~ Death Touch: Cause Death Mark on Skull damage
  • ~ Doom: Deal double damage vs Death Marked Enemies
  • ~ Warded: Immunity to Death Mark
  • ~ Grudge: Gain 1 Attack when an enemy casts a spell
  • ~ Plague Touch: Cause Disease on Skull damage
  • ~ Virulence: Deal double damage vs Diseased Enemies
  • ~ Immune: Immunity to Disease

* Kingdom Skill Changes:

  • ~ Zhul’Kari has changed from Attack to Magic
  • ~ Mist of Scales has changed from Life to Armor
  • ~ Grosh-Nak has changed from Attack to Armor

* Team Bonus Changes:

  • ~ Zaejin Team Bonus- has changed from +10 Life for 4 troops to +4 Life and +3 Attack for 4 troops.
  • ~ Stormheim Team Bonus- has changed from +2 Life and +4 Attack for 4 troops to +10 Life for 4 troops.
  • ~ Maugrim Woods Team Bonus- has changed from +4 Life and + 3 Attack for 4 troops to +2 Life and +4 Attack for 4 troops.
General
* Ascension– the Arrow buttons will now cause more cards to be deducted than 1. This should save many fingers from Ascensions requiring 25+ troops.
* Refund Menu– Players are able to refund a troop, gaining back souls and Traitstones spent on it.

  • ~ Refund will only be offered at the discretion of the dev team, when they believe a troop has been nerfed.
  • ~ Troop Refunds will only be offered for a single week.
  • ~ Refund Button is found when you tap on a Card in the Troop Collection Menu.

* Difficulty– has moved to the World Map from Hero menu:

  • No longer affects PVP or Arena.
  • Both PVP and Arena will gradually increase the difficulty (slightly) as you progress, gradually turning off the AI Combo-breaker (as you approach 8 wins in the Arena, and as you approach Rank 1 in PvP). This means that games will start getting harder the better you are doing.
  • Difficulties will now unlock as you level up.

* Arena:

  • ~ Souls have increased back to 1.0.7 levels!
  • ~ You now have to win 7 matches in order to be able to purchase the troops.
  • ~ The purchase price for troops you already own has been increased from 1 Gem, to be in-line with what you would pay for a key.

* Treasure Hunt Mini Game has received a little love:

  • ~ Turns reduced to 8 (from 15). This reduces the total number of moves in a game by 10-20% (NOT by 50%)
  • ~ Most payouts in treasure hunt have been increased by around 20%
  • ~ Every 15 moves will give you a random Traitstone
  • ~ New result summary with number of turns played & score
  • ~ New payout table has been added to the right hand side of the board
Troop Balance
Alastair
* Mana color change from Blue/ Purple to Red/ Blue
* Boost ratio increased from 1:4 to 1:3
* Mana cost reduced from 14 to 12
* Gain Barrier for himself

Ancient Horror
* Now gains Magic at level 14
* “Gain 3 Attack if the enemy dies” changed to “Gain 6 to a random Skill if the enemy dies”

Archon Statue
* Bonus damage when damaged increased from 6 to 8

Atlanta
* Now gains Magic at level 12
* True Shot Trait has been changed to Armor Piercing

Avina
* True Shot Trait has been changed to Armor Piercing
* Agile Trait has been changed to Warded

Aziris
* Mana cost increased from 5 to 6
* Spell will now refill his mana if there is 10 or more Purple Gems on the board.

Banshee
* Increased boost ratio from 1:3 to 1:2

Berserker
* Changed his random damage to scale at both ends by magic. This means that his lower damage amount will also scale with Magic, not just his high damage amount.

Black Beast
* Spell has now create 6 Skulls each time he casts his spell
* Mana cost has been reduced from 13 to 12

Blast Cannon
* Mana cost reduced from 14 to 12

Bone Dragon
* Reduced boost ratio from 1:2 to 1:3

Bombardier
* Spell now has a 30% chance to burn the enemy

Bul’Tauros
* Now gains Magic at levels 7, and 11

Centaur Scout
* True Shot Trait has been replaced with Fast

Chimera
* Changed Entangle enemy to Burn enemy

Crimson Bat
* Mana cost from 16 to 15
* Now gains Magic at levels 12

Cthyryzyx
* Agile Trait changed to Death Touch

Dark Maiden
* Increased base spell damage from 0 to 2

Dark Master
* Mana cost reduced from 14 to 13

Dimetraxia
* Burn chance increased from 25% to 30%

Dire Wolf
* Spell now gives an extra turn if there is 10 or more Green Gems on the board.

Dokkalfar
* Spell has been reworked. Now deals damage randomly split amongst enemies and summons a Giant Spider troop. No longer gains Magic from spell.
* Mana cost reduced from 15 to 13
* Mana colors change to Brown/ Purple

Drake Rider
* Increased boost ratio from 1:3 to 1:2

Dryad
* Mana cost increased from 8 to 10
* Reduce Green Gems created from 9 to 8
* Life gain increased from 3 to 5
* Gives Barrier to Ally

Dwarf Lord
* Increase Armor gain if the enemy dies from 4 to 8.

Dwarven Miner
* Spell now has a 25% chance to give 100 gold

Elwyn
* Spell changed to scale of Magic, and boosted by Yellow Gems destroyed.
* Base spell damage increase from 0 to 2
* Boost ratio is 1:1
* Now gains Magic at levels 1, 10, 12, and 15

Emperina
* Now gains Magic at levels 5, and 12

Fenrir
* Mana Color changed to Green/ Blue
* Mana cost reduced from 13 to 11

Ferit
* Now gains Magic at level 12

Finely
* Mana Colors changed from Red/ Green to Green/ Yellow
* Mana cost reduced from 12 to 10
* Base gold amount increased from 2 to 5

Flame Cannon
* Spell now has a 20% chance to burn an enemy

Flesh Golem
* Mana cost reduced from 14 to 12

Frost Giant
* Mana Colors changed to Blue/ Brown
* Spell now Freezes the enemy
* Air Brand Trait has been replaced with Water Brand

Gar’Nok
* Reduced spell damage to allies from 3 to 1

Ghoul
* Agile Trait replaced with Human Slayer

Giant Spider
* Spell has been reworked. Now transforms a chosen Color Gems to Purple and summons a Spider Swarm troop. No longer gains Life from spell.
* Mana cost increased from 9 to 13
* Now Gains Magic at levels 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14

Glade Warden
* True Shot Trait has been replaced with Armor Piercing
* Agile Trait has been replaced with Nature Spirit

Gnoll
* True Shot Trait has been replaced with Grudge

Golem
* Armor reduction now scales of Magic, boosted by Brown Gems destroyed.
* Now gains Magic at levels 1, 10, 15

Gorgon
* Mana cost reduced from 12 to 10
* Now gains Magic at levels 11, and 14

Grave Knight
* Increased base spell damage from 1 to 2

Griffin Knight
* Now gains Magic at level 11

Hag
* Mana cost reduced from 10 to 9

Hippogryph
* Change double damage to entangled enemy to deal triple damage to enemy Hunter’s Mark

Hydra
* Mana cost reduced from 18 to 17

Ice Witch
* Now gains Magic at level 11
* Spell now Freezes the enemy.
* Mana cost increased 9 to 10

Jarl Firemantle
* Now gains Magic at levels 11, and 14

* Spell deals double damage vs. Giants

Knight Coronet
* Now gains Magic at level 13

* Mana cost reduced from 9 to 8

* Changed “Restore 10 Life if the enemy dies.” to “Gain 6 Life if the enemy dies.”

* Pyromania Trait has been replaced with Fire Link

Musketeer
* Now gains Magic at level 14

Night Terror
* Increased boost ratio from 1:3 to 1:2

Nymph
* Spell now reduces enemy armor (scaled by magic), as well entangling them.
* Mana cost reduced from 10 to 6
* Now gains Magic at level 1, 10, and 15

Orc
* Siege Trait has been changed to Doom
* Agile Trait replaced with Grudge

Orion
* True Shot Trait has been changed to Orion’s Legendary Trait

Owlbear
* Mana Colors Changed from Green/ Yellow to Green/ Brown

Pegasus
* Now gains Magic at levels 11, and 13

Poison Master
* Now explodes multiple Green gems (scaled off ½ magic)
* Mana cost increased from 9 to 11
* Now game Magic at levels 1, 10, 15

Priestess
* Spell now gives Ally Barrier

Psion
* Mana cost reduced from 16 to 15
* Now gains Magic at levels 11, and 14
* Increased Mana drain from 4 to 5

Ranger
* Increased damage randomly split amongst enemies from 6 to 8.
* True Shot Trait has been changed to Armor Piercing

Raven
* Spell now give extra turn as well as Mana if the enemy dies.

Revenant
* Mana color has been changed Red/ Purple to Blue/ Purple
* Spell has been changed, now deals damage to the last troop, boosted by Skulls on the board. Will inflict Death Mark on a random enemy.
* Mana cost has been increased from 10 to 12

Reaver
* Fire Spirit trait has been replaced with Nature Spirit

Rex Warrior
* Spell has been reworked, now deals damage to an enemy and cleanse himself. Gains Attack if the enemy dies.
* Mana cost increase from 8 to 10
* Now gains Magic at Levels 4 and 7

Rhynax
* Now gains Magic at levels 11 and 14

Rowanne
* Increased boost ratio from 1:1 to x2

Sabertooth Lion
* Mana cost reduced from 9 to 8
* Magic Gain from enemy kill increased from 2 to 5

Salamander
* Now gains Magic at levels 5 and 10

Satyr
* Mana cost reduced from 9 to 8

Scale Guard
* Increased base spell damage from 2 to 3

Scarlett

* Mana color changed to Red

* Now gains Magic at level 11

* Mana cost reduced from 14 to 13

Sylvasi
* Increased boost ratio from 1:5 to 1:3
* Mana cost reduced from 14 to 13
* Changes Blue Gems to Purple instead of Yellow

Tankbot 2000
* Now gains Magic at levels 11, 12, and 14

Tau
* Spell now deals damage to an enemy. If the enemy dies Tau gains 4 to all Skills.
* No longer gains Magic at level 11

Tauros
* Increased damage to second enemy when Tauros damaged from 5 to 8.

Terraxis
* Increased boost ratio from 1:4 to 1:3
* Now gains Magic at levels 5, and 12

The Silent One
* Mana Cost reduced from 18 to 16
* Increased starting Attack from 4 to 5
* Increased starting Life from 3 to 5
* Increased starting Armor from 2 to 3

Tyri
* Spell now destroys Gems of a chosen color (scales off Magic), Gold gain is now 5, and she has a chance to give a Treasure Map.

Vampire Lord
* Now gains Magic at level 11

Warhound
* Now gains Magic at levels 11, and 13

Warlock
* Increased boost ratio from 1:3 to 1:2

Watcher
* Now gains Magic at level 13

Winter Imp
* Increased boost ratio from 1:3 to 1:2
* No longer removes Blue gems from the board

Wolf Knight
* Bonus damage if enemy is wounded increased from 3 to 6
* True Shot Trait has been replaced with Armor Piercing

Weapon Balance
Crescendo
* Mana cost increased from 14 to 15
* Magic gain increased from 1 to 2

Eternal Flame
* Mana Cost increased from 6 to 8
* Now converts a Gem to Red, then create 7 more Red Gems
* Now Burns a random enemy

Farsight Orb
* Mana cost increased from 9 to 10
* Now create fixed number of Blue Gems
* Random Skill buff now scales off magic

Gard’s Wall
* Mana cost reduced from 12 to 10
* Now gains Life instead of Armor
* Removes Green Gems instead of Purple
* Now gives Barrier

Morthani’s Scythe
* Mana cost reduced from 16 to 15
* Skulls created when enemy dies increased from 6 to 7
* Base spell damage increased from 2 to 4

Nysha’s Skull
* Now created a fixed number of skulls
* Now summons a Revenant
* No longer gains an extra turn.

Primal Rage
* Attack gained when enemy dies increased from 1 to 7

Sheggra’s Heart
* Now creates a fixed number of Red Gems
* Now gives a random ally Life, which scales with magic

Staff of the Magus
* Mana cost reduced from 10 to 9

Vile Flask
* Mana cost from 16 to 14
* Weapon has been reworked
* Similar to before it will destroy an enemy’s Armor and then either Poison them or Deal damage (scaled with magic) to them.
* No longer creates Green gems.

Winter’s Woe
* Change Entangle to Freeze
* Weapon allows player to choose enemy

Legendary Traits
Each (native) Legendary gain Legendary Traits the replaced existing traits. Legendary Traits are always the third trait unlock, despite where the remove Trait was. The following Traits were replaced with new Legendary Traits:

  • ~ Behemoth: Huge
  • ~ Bone Dragon: Agile

Major Bug Fixes
* Fixed issue on iOS and Android devices where trying to play two Revenge battles in a row would cause the game to crash.
* Fixed an issue where a Troop with agile wouldn’t die despite taking damage.
Known Issues
* When the Black Beast has no longer has an Ally to devour, he doesn’t create Skull Gems (as per the latest changes to his spell).
* Watcher’s Mana drain does not trigger on the new status effects: Death Mark, Frozen and Disease.

    All I can say is that this game seems to be taking a turn for the worst. I used to enjoy relaxing and playing a few games of GoW, but now I find it more frustrating than it’s worth.

    I play games to relax and chill, not to be constantly punished. The Arena is shit now. Why does the enemy team ALWAYS have ALL three unique traits active, yet even the characters I have upgraded NEVER have ANY traits active in Arena battles?

    I used to regularly play and WIN Arena Battles on HARD or Warlord, etc, very rarely on normal. However, now I can’t even make it past the 3rd or 4th battle even on NORMAL because I am ALWAYS outclassed.

    I haven’t seen an Arena Battle since the update where the enemy team doesn’t have ALL traits unlocked no matter how crappy or good my team is.

    Also, connectivity is absolute shit now.

    In short, this game is making me want to uninstall it, because I’m finding it aggravating to the point that I feel like it’s become Pay 2 Win. Sure, it’s FREE to Play, but if you want ANY fucking wins, you must buy stupid ass trait stones to upgrade your players.

    PVP is a total nightmare for me now. I used to win almost every battle, especially if I was facing a lower level opponent. In fact, I used to regularly face higher levels on purpose for more of a challenge and I still would win 95% of the time. However, now I very rarely even come close to a win even when I’m versing players that are only level 70 and I’m level 195. Why? Cuz everyone I face in PVP has ALL their damn traits unlocked just like Arena Battles for me. These must be P2W players or devs trolling us.

    Anyway, it was a fun game while it lasted, but unless something changes, I don’t see myself playing this game much anymore. It’s kind of pointless to sit down to play a game to relax, only to end up pissed off and rage quitting cuz you feel like the devs are intentionally trolling its players.

    Really, if it wasn’t enough with the last update. This game is getting out of control. Why would any veteran player keep playing to unlock classes when we don’t even use the weapons now? Not because the weapons are not useful, but because the synergy of teams. I have been playing since Gems of War’s inception. I run a guild that is in the top 200, and we are constantly active. This update is even more ridiculous than the last one. I lost 14 GOOD players from 1.0.8. I feel this game is going to lose all veteran players unless we dial back the micro transactions. At this point I think I would be better off starting completely over dropping 20 bux and focus only on one class and one kingdom. Who cares if you own 100% of the kingdoms now when you can be bested by a day one player who has a fist full of dinero. Pay 2 win. This game is not going to make it if they continue with the current business model.

    One problem I’ve encountered (on PS4 version) is that a berzerker’s regen is cancelled by a barrier (from a priestess, for example). If my fully-traited berserker has less than full life and a barrier, at the start of my turn, the barrier disappears and he doesn’t regenerate life!

    ~ New Status Effect: Barrier , A troop with Barrier is immune to the next piece of damage he receives, either from skulls, spells, or status effects.

    …..this states DAMAGE specifically. In reality, it’s actually “immune to next change in true life”

    Please fix!
